Prenatal 3D/4D Ultrasound is a new technology that allows you to see images and video of your unborn baby. With 3D Ultrasound, you can see features of the baby before birth and can watch your baby move. Seeing your baby through the technology of ultrasound can be a joyful experience. At Lexington Women’s Health, we believe that ultrasound can promote early bonding which can be a powerful force to carry you through the last weeks of a pregnancy and the early weeks of the newborn period.
Most insurance carriers will cover one routine prenatal ultrasound to screen for birth defects. Unless a problem is suspected, additional ultrasounds are usually not covered. The best time to screen for birth defects is in the mid-2nd trimester. In addition, the technologist is focused on a highly complex exam of your baby and a physician reviews each image carefully.
Fetal photography sessions allow us to spend some time to enjoy the simple pleasure of viewing your baby’s features. You also have the option of bringing family members with you to the photography session (sessions are currently limited to 1 visitor). The session can be recorded by the patient or visitor. This exam is not reviewed by a physician and is not intended in any way to detect abnormalities of the baby, placenta, cervix, or fluid levels.
Yes, Lexington Women’s Health requires that all patients have a normal diagnostic medical ultrasound, fetal survey, before attending your 3D/4D Ultrasound session.
Fetal photography sessions are scheduled between 28 and 32 weeks gestation. This is the time that your baby’s facial features are well developed, and you can see facial expressions.
Your fetal photography session will include 20 minutes of ultrasound recording. Please understand that not every baby will be in a position to obtain a good view of the face. We cannot guarantee images of the face, gender, or any other specific body part on fetal photography sessions.
Ultrasound has been studied for over 35 years and has not been shown to cause any harm to the mother or fetus.
Fetal photography sessions are $180 payable upon scheduling. For a refund, 24 hours cancellation notice is required. Please be on time as a late arrival will shorten your session in the ultrasound suite. Please note that we cannot provide refunds due to your baby’s position or inability to obtain the views you would like to see as this is out of our control.
Please call our ultrasound suite directly at 859-519-4755 and one of our sonographers will schedule your session. Please have your credit card information available. We hope you enjoy your fetal photography session at Lexington Women’s Health.
