Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy
Dr. Gina Cunningham is a physical therapist who specializes in pelvic floor rehabilitation. As the director of Axia’s pelvic health physical therapy program, Gina is excited to offer an interdisciplinary and conservative approach to patients across Axia’s practitioners. Gina received her undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph’s University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Health Services and a minor in Bioethics. She went to pursue her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University completed in 2012. She developed a strong passion in treating pelvic floor disorders during one of her clinical rotations and has since then provided individualized specialty care in an outpatient setting.
Gina achieved her Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy (CAPP-Pelvic) and is a Board Certified Specialist in Women’s Health (WCS). She is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Pelvic Health Section and is currently Pennsylvania’s State Representative. In 2020, Gina was awarded the Vincent M. Imperatrice Award from the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association Private Practice Special Interest Group. Gina’s efforts in advocating to state legislators for “4th Trimester Care Awareness Day” was acknowledged. She helped with the development of Senate Resolution 74 which was passed in Pennsylvania on May 26th, 2021 to recognize the concerns of mental and physical health postpartum.
Gina treats with a holistic and whole body approach to help her patients with pelvic dysfunctions achieve their goals. She treats pelvic pain conditions including vaginismus, vulvodynia/vestibulitis, interstitial cystitis, dyspareunia (painful intercourse), and sexual related traumas. Gina also helps conditions such as constipation, visceral immobilization, scar tissue restrictions, sacroiliac dysfunction, hip pain, urinary retention, and urinary/fecal urgency, frequency, and incontinence. She treats pregnancy and postpartum conditions including pubic symphysis dysfunction, coccyx pain, diastasis recti, low back pain and sciatica. She is certified in gender affirming care for transgender and non-binary health. Gina lives in Downingtown with her husband, two children, and English bulldogs.
