Clinician discussing treatment with patient - weight management - Lexington Women's Health

Lexington Women’s Heath Weight Management Program

Initially designed to help our patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) lose and maintain their weight, we have discovered that we can achieve this for all patient types. We take a multidisciplinary approach to managing our patients with obesity, and provide evidence-based, compassionate clinical care.

Our Approach

Research has shown that obesity is the result of numerous factors. It can also cause many health-related conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, cancer and arthritis. We provide an in-depth personal assessment to evaluate the source of your weight-related issues. We also screen and provide solutions for factors that may have contributed to your weight gain, including medications, sleep disorders, and abnormal eating behaviors. Our providers coordinate care with nutritionists, dietitians, and bariatric surgeons to help patients lose and maintain their weight loss through lifestyle intervention, medication, and surgical intervention when appropriate. Using the shared decision-making approach, which includes the patient, a personalized plan will be designed. Once the plan is established, we work with you closely and evaluate your response over time, making changes as needed. Follow up is provided in person monthly.

How to Prepare for your Visit

Consider the following questions for your provider:

  • Could any of my medical conditions or medications be causing weight gain or making it harder for me to lose weight?
  • How can I change my eating habits so I can be healthier and reach a healthy weight?
  • What is a healthy weight or BMI for me?
  • Will losing weight improve my general health, as well as specific health problems I have?
  • How much and what type of physical activity should I do to get healthier and reach a healthy weight?
  • Could I benefit from seeing a nutrition specialist to help me learn more about healthy foods?

You can be better prepared for a visit if you write down all your questions ahead of time, record all the medicines and dietary supplements you take, or bring them with you write down the types of diets or programs you have tried in the past to lose weight, bring a pen and paper, smartphone, or other mobile device to read your questions and take notes.

During Your First Visit

Your provider will review any medical problems you have and medicines to see whether they may be affecting your weight or your ability to lose weight and ask you about your eating, drinking, and physical activity habits. Your provider will determine your body mass index (BMI) to see whether you’re overweight or have obesity.  People who are overweight have a BMI between 25.0 and 29.9. People with obesity have a BMI of 30.0 or higher, and those with extreme obesity have a BMI of 40.0 or higher. You can use this online tool from the U.S. Center for Disease control to see what your BMI is.

We are committed to meeting your needs by providing cutting edge medical care and attending to the small details that can make your visit as smooth and stress-free as possible. To make an appointment, please call 859-264-8811 or request one using the Make an Appointment buttons on this page.
