Dr. Carlysa Oyama is a New Jersey native, born and raised in Essex County. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame. While there, Dr. Oyama worked in an ovarian cancer research lab, which sparked her initial interest in women’s health. She then went on to receive her medical degree from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. There she served as a member of numerous community service initiative projects focusing on social determinants of health.
Dr. Oyama came back to New Jersey for residency, which she completed at Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick. During her training, Dr. Oyama had robust experience with high risk labor and delivery management and focused on patient advocacy, even attending the Congressional Leadership Conference with ACOG. Dr. Oyama served as the Administrative Chief Resident for her program, elected by her program director. Dr. Oyama is excited to continue her practice in New Jersey and give back to her community while focusing on patient centered care! In her free time, she enjoys yoga, art, and traveling to new places!
