Dr. Gates began his career as an undergraduate at the University of Notre Dame. With a BA in Economics/Professional Studies, he then completed medical school at the Indiana University School of Medicine, and his residency at St. Vincent Hospital. Dr. Gates has been Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1997. He is a member of the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), the American College of Physician Executives, the Indianapolis Medical Society, as well as a Fellow member with the Indiana State Medical Association.
Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Gates has been honored with the following awards: Outstanding Gynecology Teacher for 1998, St. Vincent Hospital, the Excellence in Teaching Award for the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics 2000, the Outstanding Clinical Faculty for 2010, St. Vincent Hospital, and the “Indianapolis Monthly Top Doctor Award”. His published articles include “A Morphometric Analysis of the Effect of Hydrocortisone-Heparin Induced Angiostasis in Microvessels,” 1988 and “Extramammary Paget’s Disease with Diffuse Involvement of the Lower Female Genito-Urinary System,” Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1996.
Although medicine is his first passion, Dr. Gates is also involved with the community. He has served as the President of the Medical Staff and Vice-President of Medical Affairs for St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, Medical Director for St. Vincent Women’s Hospital, serves as President of the Board of Directors for OB/GYN of Indiana, and Team Captain for the United States Tennis Association (USTA). Dr. Gates has three children and his hobbies include time with his family, traveling, running, biking, swimming, and tennis. Dr. Gates is accepting new patients at the North and Zionsville locations.
