Dr. Smith is a graduate of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed his internship and residency at Abington Memorial Hospital. He completed his Fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists (also called perinatologists) specialize in high-risk obstetrics. These specialists provide comprehensive, highlevel prenatal testing, fetal diagnosis and perform genetic and diagnostic procedures.
As a resident, Dr. Smith was honored as an Abington Memorial Hospital Rosenfeld Scholar for outstanding scholarship and Humanism in OB/GYN (1990-92); and as Resident Bowl Winner, Philadelphia Obstetrical Society (1992). He has also received the Gynecology National Faculty Award (1996) for Excellence in Resident Education and the AMH Distinguished Faculty Award (2001). He has been selected as a top teacher by both the Temple University School of Medicine students (2008) and the Drexel University College of Medicine students (2011). Dr. Smith has served on numerous AMH and professional society committees. Dr. Smith is published in both national and international medical publications. In addition, he has given many presentations and lectures in his area of specialty.
Dr. Smith is a member of numerous professional societies, including the AMA, American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, and the Pennsylvania Medical Society.
