Originally from Abington, Pennsylvania, Dr. Joseph Murphy graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC in 1992 with a B.A. in Theology. He then entered Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and graduated Cum Laude in 1996. Dr. Murphy completed his OB/GYN residency at Pennsylvania Hospital through the University of Pennsylvania. During his residency, Dr. Murphy was presented with the Thomas Zachary Award for Outstanding Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency. After residency, he joined a private practice at Abington Hospital where he continues to serve the healthcare community now with Athena OB/GYN.
Dr. Murphy provides comprehensive obstetrical and gynecological care including low and high-risk obstetrics, office gynecology, office-based surgery, laparoscopic and open surgery, fertility, and menopausal management. Dr. Murphy believes in empowering his patients to demand the highest quality care while allowing ample time to answer all their questions and concerns. He lives in Jenkintown with his wife, Amy, and their three children and energetic labradoodle, Mick. Dr. Murphy spends his free time visiting his family and traveling.
