Dr. Sawin graduated at the top of his class from the University of Rochester School of Medicine where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He has special interest and expertise in the areas of in vitro fertilization (IVF), the surgical management of uterine fibroids (myomectomy) including the minimally invasive technique of laparoscopic robotic myomectomy and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Dr. Sawin has performed over 3,000 IVF procedures and over 2,000 surgical procedures in his career. He has published extensively and has been invited to speak at local and national scientific meetings. He has published research on the safety of myomectomy for uterine fibroids, the role of tubal hydrosalpinx on IVF success rates and the proper development of the endometrium and its effect on embryonic implantation.
Dr. Sawin is a two time recipient of the Philadelphia Area Reproductive Endocrine Society Award for original research in infertility as well as the S Leon Isreal award given by the Philadelphia Obstetrical Society. In addition, he has twice been awarded the Medical Professional Appreciation Award by the Polycystic Ovary Association, a national patient support group for PCOS. Dr. Sawin is the past President of the Philadelphia Area Reproductive Endocrine Society (PARES). Dr. Sawin is also the Director of the Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis program and Assistant Director of IVF at South Jersey Fertility Center.
