Weight management isn’t just about a number on the scale. Your health, lifestyle, nutrition, medical history, and goals are all part of the picture. We’re answering the most frequently asked questions about our weight management service, as part of our Center for Healthy Living.
There is no one-size-fits-all timeline. How long you participate depends on your health, goals, treatment plan, and progress.
Our longer-term approach is intentional. Regular clinical follow-up, nutrition support, health coaching, and healthy behavior changes give you and your care team an opportunity to understand what’s working, make adjustments, and support progress over time.
Some insurance plans may also require participation in a comprehensive weight-management program for a specified period of time before considering coverage for certain weight-management medications.
You don’t need to come to an office. All Center for Healthy Living visits are virtual.
At this time, the program is available to eligible patients who are physically located in Pennsylvania outside of Philadelphia at the time of their appointment.
No. You can join your virtual appointment through a web browser using the link sent to you by email and text.
We recommend joining approximately 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment so you have time to complete any questionnaires needed for your visit.
Possibly. Your clinical provider will determine whether laboratory testing is needed based on your health history and any recent testing you’ve already completed.
If labs are ordered, they can be completed at your Axia Care Center, and the Center for Healthy Living team will receive your results.
You’ll need access to a scale and blood-pressure cuff.
Although our program isn’t solely focused on the number on the scale, weight and blood-pressure information may be needed to safely manage your care and meet insurance or medication requirements.
Yes, when medically appropriate. Your clinical provider will review your health history and treatment goals and determine whether an FDA-approved weight-management medication should be part of your individualized plan.
Medication is not appropriate for every patient, and receiving care through the Center for Healthy Living does not guarantee that a medication will be prescribed.
That depends on the medication and your insurance coverage.
If medication is prescribed, your care navigator can help you understand your benefits and coverage. If a medication isn’t covered, the team can also help you explore self-pay or available discount options.
The Center for Healthy Living accepts most major insurance plans. Clinical provider and registered dietitian visits are billed through insurance when covered by your plan.
Your individual costs will depend on your insurance benefits, including applicable copays and deductibles. Certain services may not be covered or may have coverage limits.
Our care-navigation team can help you better understand your benefits and potential costs.
Insurance typically covers traditional clinical services, but it doesn’t cover every component of comprehensive weight-management care.
The $50 monthly program fee supports services such as health coaching, personalized care navigation, assistance understanding insurance benefits and medication costs, and access to nutrition education and other program resources.
The fee begins after your initial consultation only if you choose to continue with the ongoing program.
You may have the option to pay out of pocket for individual dietitian visits.
Even if your insurance doesn’t cover individual registered dietitian visits, patients enrolled in the program can still access nutrition education and classes offered through the program.
No. Insurance coverage varies by plan and medication, and participation in the Center for Healthy Living cannot guarantee coverage.
Some insurance plans require patients to participate in a comprehensive weight-management program—often for at least six months—before they will consider coverage for certain medications. Our care-navigation team can help you understand your individual benefits and requirements.
You can send your care team a secure message through the Axia Patient Portal for questions between visits, including questions about refills or medication side effects.
