Genetic Screening for Cancer Risk

Knowledge is power, and genetic testing is a powerful way to find out if you carry any gene mutations linked to cancer risk. If you learn that you are at a higher risk for cancer, you can then create a proactive care plan to improve your outcomes. Our health providers can work with you to take preventive measures, as well as detect cancer earlier.

Axia Women’s Health genetic services include:

• Screening for breast cancer risk (BRCA 1 & 2 mutations)
• Screening for ovarian and colon cancer
• Hereditary cancer risk assessments

If any mutations are detected in your results, we build strength and hope right into an action plan. Your Axia Women’s Health provider will partner with a genetic counselor to create a personalized prevention and early detection program for you.

Genetic Screening During Pregnancy

Axia Women’s Health is the first U.S. OB/GYN physician-owned lab to launch non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) for our pregnant patients. Precision Prenatal, our new NIPT, is now offered across all of our care centers at as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy. The testing is used to analyze DNA from the placenta and fetus to detect certain chromosome conditions that could affect a baby’s health. This state-of-the-art, early screening offers the power to make educated decisions about future testing, your pregnancy, and baby’s care.

Precision Prenatal NIPT screens for:

• Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome)
• Trisomy 18 and 13
• Triploidy
• Monosomy X
• Sex-chromosome aneuploidies
• Microdeletions (optional)
• Fetal sex (optional)
